Introduction to Linocut Printing

£40.00

Linocut Printing workshop

Saturday 11 May

Session One 10 am - 1 pm

Session Two 2.30 pm - 5.30 pm

Come and learn or refresh your skills the art of linocut printmaking with experienced artist printmaker Rachel Collier-Wilson. We will provide a relaxed, inclusive environment to explore your creativity.

Starting with drawing, designing and creating your own images; safely cut the lino block; ink the plate; and hand-print your design. Once completed, you will have a block to take away with you to use again and several handmade prints.

The workshop will include

• All materials
• Explanation of relief printing and looking at examples.
• Introduction to equipment and cutting techniques.
• Planning an image and cutting the design.
• Use of rollers and how to ink up your block.
• How to print with both a press and with a wooden spoon.

Experience level

Beginner and/or those wishing to refresh their skills.
Maximum of 8 participants.

Lino cutting is one of the most accessible of the printmaking processes. This is a very hands-on course; the process of carving is very mindful and incredibly satisfying. However, the use of sharp tools does make it unsuitable for young children.

What you will need

An apron or an old shirt to protect your clothing from the ink

Inspiration for your design. Rachel can provide help with design and layout and also provide plenty of examples.

The workshop location

John Lewis Norwich Community Space, next to the Benugo Cafe on the first floor. Includes a voucher to get a hot or soft drink. Also parking is free for participants for the duration of the course.

Accessibility - the space is light and airy, and fully accessible via a lift. Toilets available on site. There is minimal noise from the adjoining cafe, if you are sensitive to this, bring your ear protectors just in case.

No physical tickets will be sent out to you, but I will email you and answer any questions before the workshop.

Please note that workshop places are non-refundable. If you need to cancel, I will re-book you to another time slot if I can, but due to venue costs, this will be a £5 fee.
